AITEX is a technological institute of reference in Spain and Europe. Focused on the textile sector, from its headquarters in Alcoy (Comunitat Valenciana) it supports companies to incorporate innovation oriented to sustainability and competitiveness.

To strengthen technology transfer, AITEX has a working group focused on it, through the Transfiere 2023 project. This annual project is supported by the Conselleria d'Economia Sostenible, Sectors Productius, Comerç i Treball de la Generalitat Valenciana, through IVACE. Monnou we have supported the group through a dynamic training for the use of our methodology.

Supporting technology transfer

The Transfiere 2023 working group offers support to the rest of the R&D projects, as well as to the companies in their processes of incorporation of technological innovation. The interest of AITEX in the Monnou methodology is oriented to the following:

  • Understand Monnou's way of working when designing projects and actions with a positive impact.
  • Acquire methodologies and tools that facilitate the definition of the vision and purpose of the R&D projects being carried out.
  • Acquire methodologies and tools that facilitate the evaluation of project impact.
  • Acquire methodologies and tools that facilitate the design of the overall experience of each project.
  • Enrich AITEX services through this design methodology.

Training in the Monnou methodology for AITEX

We developed a training program for the AITEX team in charge of project management and technology transfer. The training program was divided into two sessions, with an intermediate accompaniment during which the participants applied the methodology to their own projects.

The first session began by explaining the Monnou methodology, its philosophy and approach, in which phases it is divided and how it has been used in real practical cases.

A practical exercise was then facilitated by groups, in which each group analyzed, using the methodology, one of their projects. After this analysis, each group presented its results and conclusions, and some reflections were discussed.

The first session ended with an explanation of some of the tools that can be applied in the methodology. The focus was put on tools oriented to aspects such as:

  • The study of the project context and stakeholders.
  • The analysis and empathy exercise with some of the most strategic stakeholders.
  • The design of the project's value proposition, and the analysis of the economic, social and environmental impacts it may have.
  • The design of the user experience that the different stakeholders have with the project.
  • Project impact assessment.

From this first session, the teams continued working with the Monnou methodology on some of their projects.

During the second session, the work done by the groups in this intermediate period was presented. Some reflections were discussed and work began on customizing the methodology for the case of AITEX. Thus, we began to glimpse guidelines and protocols through which the AITEX team can use the Monnou Methodology to support their actions.

A methodology to innovate with purpose and sustainability

The Monnou methodology is a strategic design methodology. That is, it incorporates the principles and practices of design (co-creation, prototyping and constant validation, tangibilization of ideas...) in the more general field of innovation. And, in the specific case of our methodology, of innovation oriented towards sustainability and positive impact.

Thus, the Monnou methodology helps organizations to:

  • Identify challenges and opportunities worth addressing within the organization.
  • Identify the possibilities of the organization, with its entire ecosystem and resources, to create responses to these challenges and opportunities.
  • Define a clear vision and roadmap to address these challenges through innovation.
  • Design attractive proposals that respond to these challenges and opportunities. They may take the form of products, services, or any other type of solution.
  • Communicate effectively the value of the proposals that are designed.
  • Evaluate the impacts of the proposals that are designed, and continuously improve.
