On its way to becoming a more sustainable and committed brand, MANGO launches its sustainability strategy with new objectives and measurement systems. These commitments to sustainability include concrete actions on the product and its communication.

On this path towards sustainability, Monnou has accompanied the brand through workshops on circular design and positive impact, together with Zuzana Kralova and the IED. This training was attended by designers, buyers, CSR and technicians from MANGO's Woman, Man and Kids lines.

Unveiling the Circular Design

We started our interventions with an introduction to the Circular Economy and the role of Design in it. We present some myths and truths about Circular Design.

Among the myths surrounding Circular Design, we have the conception that it is only about recycling, or that it is only about product design. On the contrary, we see Circular Design as an approach that acts on multiple aspects related to the product, communication and business. It is an iterative and continuous process, a path, which involves other departments and stakeholders in a collaborative way.

Creation of circular and sustainable strategies

These trainings focused on strategic design applied to circular products. In this way, the teams build their capacity to innovate in the circular economy with a strategic vision of the product.

We introduce systems thinking around the product, to go far beyond the conception that circular design is about choosing recycled and recyclable materials. We also introduce some principles of circular design for the fashion sector, present in the book 'Circular Design for Fashion' by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation. We talk about possible circular strategies that can be applied in the fashion sector.

Brand transformation from product design

During the workshops, we approach circular and sustainable design as a process, a path. Some of the benefits that brands get from these workshops are:

  • Creation of a culture of sustainability and circular economy within the organization.
  • Acquisition of key skills in their teams, for sustainable innovation and the transition to the circular economy.
  • Strengthening its positioning as a sustainable brand.

In this way, brands such as MANGO manage to advance along the road to sustainability. They manage to expand and strengthen the capabilities of their teams, activate sustainable innovation within the organisation, and reinforce their positioning as committed brands.
